Kiwi Reserve with self-guided walks to spot kiwi at night; Eco Centre with local information and resources; native & endemic flora & fauna; good quality holiday accommodation & camping facilities; tranquil natural haven close to amenities; accessible causeway linking island to mainland.

Aroha Island is on Kerikeri inlet and offers waterside and bush camping, 2 bush cottages and a 3 bedroom holiday house within a 12-hectare natural environment. The campsite is sheltered and close to the native bush, home to our resident North Island Brown Kiwi. When staying on the island you can look for our kiwi foraging in their natural habitat - we will advise you on the best way to do this. You can soak up the peaceful pace of island life, take our 30-40 minute bush walk, learn more about the birds and trees that inhabitat the island, explore the unique mangrove environs and the stunning night sky. We have a mix of powered and unpowered sites in the lower waterside and upper bush camps. BBQs, gas cookers, fridge/freezer and clean kitchen, shower and toilet facilities available. You need to bring your own crockery, cutlery, pots etc. Hot showers available for $1 for 5 minutes. Water restrictions during summer months. Due to the fragile nature of the island, there is NO smoking or pets allowed on Aroha Island. Our check-in time is between 2pm and 6pm. Please let us know if you expect to arrive outside these hours. To protect our kiwi, the gate is closed at night but access can be arranged with us outside these hours. Aroha Island is managed by Aroha Island Charitable Trust and is owned by Queen Elizabeth II National Trust. Kerikeri is only 12km away and the beautiful Bay of Islands is just beyond that.
