The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre is home to two exhibitions, the original, Knights of the Sky is film director, Sir Peter Jackson???s own collection of WW1 aircraft and artifacts. The story of aviation in the Great War is brought to life in sensational sets by WingNut Films, some recreating actual incidents and featuring mannequins by Weta Workshop. The rare memorabilia are worthy of any national collection and range from beautifully crafted 'trench art' through to personal items belonging to the famous Red Baron himself. Dangerous Skies is a new exhibition featuring aircraft from WW2 including a rare original Mosquito fighter and a Griffon-powered Spitfire. Women pilots feature more prominently in this exhibition and in a world-first (outside of Russia) the Battle of Stalingrad leaps off the pages of history in a truly thought-provoking cinematic experience. Joy flights are also available in an open cockpit Boeing Stearman, a Yak3 Russian fighter and the world's only flyable Mk1 Avro Anson. Please see our website for details. Omaka is open daily until 5 pm and offers exclusive merchandise and great coffee!
